Emergency therapeutic game

We did another climbing therapeutic game, but we weren´t climbing - we pretended someone got a broken leg and we have to carry him to the safety. It took a lot of time and efforts. Many pupils behaved much differently than in classroom: some did much better, some panicked, with some I would not want to go on a trip alone. Then we talked about it a lot.

In the picture, the injured is not visible - he is somewhere higher. We didn´t take many pictures, we concentrated on the game.

How to solve your conflicts at school

At Schule an der Rolandsmauer we have different concepts for students to solve their problems they have in the lessons or with other students at school.
One possibilitiy is our special room for social training, where students were send by the teachers if they couldn´t follow the lessons because of social behavior problems. There they have to reflect their behavior by thinking and writing down some reasons why they could not or don´t want to follow the lessons. Together with a social worker the students talk about the problems and try to solve it or at least to find a way to deal with at school. Then they were send back to the lesson.

Another possiblitiy for our students to deal with a conflict at school is to go to the so called "student mediators", where the mediators try to deal with a conflict two students have with each other. First they talk to one of the students and ask what the conflict is in his opinion, then they talk to the other student to hear the other side of the medal. Afterwards they try to mediate the conversation between the two students themselves. That is not easy! But sometimes it works better than if a social worker or teacher deals with it. And the mediators themselves get a lot of experiences, too!

A special method our social workers tried for a student who has massiv behavior problems is the "supporter team". This student always tries to get in contact to other students during the recreation breaks by behaving not well. So one social worker who deals with this student build a group of students to help him to find the right way to get in contact to other students. That is not easy because some supporters had been in conflict with him earlier. So they need to do hard work to stay calm and help him! But it works a little;-))

Exciting lecturers and partners in our project

We met Marcus Torgeby
an inspiring person, who made a Skype-conference with us. We have been reading his book, "Löparens hjärta" (The runners hart) this spring. Marcus is a person who decided to leave a normal life to live in the nature for four yeras when he was 20 years old. Thats because of his tough childhood with a sick mother and a feeling of exclusion. His life was running, but when he competed it allways went wrong.
Mark was very inspiring and open. He told about his own difficulties and how he has to find his way in life by adversity and successes.

Some of his important messages: It is ok to be afraid, accept it and then you can work on the fears.
Water the grass where you stand - life is as it is and is not always possible to change but develop and work on what you can and take care of what you have.
Obsessions and Eating Disorders - sometimes you have an idea that will get stuck, you know that it's wrong to do what you do. When you know it, you have to find his way - by finding that they themselves enjoy. It may be running, painting, music or loneliness more.
Finding their thing and not listen to others - it is important!
Marcus was great and happy and honest with everything and gave us hope and inspiration. Fantastic that Marcus wanted to talk to oss😄

We also met Anneli Pompe, another adventurer and inspired person

We have been reading her book, "Otroligt högt och extremt djupt" (Unbelievable high and extrem deep) and red her blog this spring.  We`ve discussed her book and the blog and went so happy when she wanted to make a Skype-conference with us. It was an exciting moment where we got some wise words of advice:
Be curious about life. Try new things. When you feel insecure and afraid of anything, so look at it with new eyes and discover and try.
Be kind to yourself.
Praise yourself and do not be your own biggest critic.
Control your thoughts to positive thinking and encourage yourself.
Dare to believe that you can and do not let anyone else tell you what you can or can not do. Anything is possible only you decide and set a goal.
Be kind to yourself and you will almost automatically kind to others and they in turn are kind to you.
Live simply and minimalistic.
Respect all life and nature.

Learning about the refugee crisis

In the last couple of weeks, pupils at Tøndergård school Molde have learned about the refugee crisis in Europe. Aimee Winsjansen, a nurse who works as a volunteer among refugees in Serbia and Greece visited us and shared her experience. Students got to see pictures and hear her tell about families who have lost their children on the dangerous ocean crossings, people who were hungry, wet, cold and needed help. Aimee works in an organization and she`s hoping to return again in the autumn. We wish her good luck.
